The metropolitans of the Anglican Communion endorsed the establishment of the centre in 1966 following the historic visit of Archbishop Ramsey to Rome. The centre provides a meeting place for those seriously interested in Christian unity, a focal point for information and for Anglican collaboration with various agencies of the Roman Church, a library of Anglican texts, and a place for scholarly theological study.
