LANDMARK RELIGIOUS CHARTER SIGNING IN BELGIUM

Area Dean, Stephen Murray, writes:- “It was a long time coming. After negotiating for more than 3 years, representatives of the Flemish government and the 'officially' recognized faith groups in Flanders finally signed a Charter of mutual cooperation on Friday 3 June 2017. This Charter officially establishes the VILD (Flemish Interfaith dialogue), and it commits the government to working with this body on issues such as poverty, migration, racism, terrorism and the media.

“The Charter was signed by the Flemish Minister-President, Geert Bourgeois and heads of the recognized faith groups. Our diocese was represented at the signing by the Reverend Canon Professor Jack McDonald in his capacity as the President of the Central Committee of the Anglican Church in Belgium.”
