"Churches around the diocese are responding well to the challenge of taking safeguarding seriously" according to Charles Clark, who chairs the diocesan Safeguarding committee. Speaking to a meeting of Bishop's Council, at Church House in London, clergy and lay members were told that there is a rapidly rising number of church members undergoing the new training courses and this is affecting the perception, understanding and importance of safeguarding locally.
Other items on Bishop's Council's agenda included a discussion about the aftermath of a report on the location and operation of the diocesan bishop's office, and ideas about the diocesan strategy, "Walking together in Faith" and how it is being addressed in congregations across the diocese. A new series of video reports showing the breadth of activity and mission will become available on the website in the coming days.
Friday's final session of Bishop's Council centred of diocesan finances, looking at possible economies and setting a budget for the coming year.
