CAROLS AND CHOIRS IN FINLAND'S CAPITA

Since so many people associate ice and snow scenes with Christmas, there can be few better settings for a seasonal service of Nine lessons and carols than St Thomas’ Cathedral in the centre of Helsinki (seen here with the Christmas market on Senate’s Square)

Bishop David and his wife were special guests at the event where some five hundred people attended, including BIshop Irja Askola of the Lutheran Diocese of Helsinki and Metropolitan Abrosius of the Orthodox Diocese of Helsinki.

Tuomas Mäkipää, Chaplain of the Anglican church in Helsinki, says; “The service at the Cathedral was very impressive and uplifting. God’s Spirit was indeed in that place!” He welcomed the invitation by Bishop David for Bishop Irja and Metropolitan Ambrosius to join the occasion and adds; “It was truly a sign of unity and love in Christ. And there were representatives from both of the Parish Union and Finnish Church House at the service.”

All three senior clerics shared in the blessing at the end of the service (picture above) during Bishop David’s pastoral visit to this diverse and thriving church community.
