Across the diocese 6 January 2017 is celebrated as the Feast of the Epiphany or, with the licence of myth and legend through the centuries, the arrival of the three kings.
On the Mediterranean coast of Spain the kings arrive on the seafront at Alcossebre, on the Costa Azahar, north of Valencia. Led by the local town band the kings, Melchior, Gaspar and Balthazar ride in horse drawn carriages, each with their courtiers walking ahead of them. They arrive in the local Roman Catholic Church and each kiss the image of baby Jesus in the stable before they hand out presents to excited youngsters.
