Clergy and lay leaders met for Eucharists in Brussels and Milan on Tuesday 11 April 2017 for the annual blessing of Chrism oils. The occasion is also used for the renewal of ordination vows and a re-commitment to God’s service.
In Brussels Bishop Robert said it was a “Special time of blessing, friendship and renewal of commitment to ministry as we gather for Chrism Eucharist” In his sermon he reminded all ministers, lay and ordained, of the call of Christ on all our lives -- to be servants, to be bridge-builders. John Wilkinson first reads our Gospel reading, Luke 7:36-50. The other reading was taken from 1 Samuel 3:1-10. Listen HERE
In Milan, clergy from the southern part of the diocese met as Bishop David celebrated Holy Communion and preached at the other Chrism Eucharist. The Archdeacon of Italy and Malta, the Venerable Vickie Sims, hosted the service in her parish of All Saints, Milan on Tuesday. Clergy and Readers from Italy, Denmark and Spain saw the oils used for baptism, anointing the sick and confirmation blessed, and their diaconal and priestly vows of ordination reaffirmed, along with the promises made by licensed lay ministers, or Readers.
Bishop David adds; “The celebration was enhanced by the presence of Archbishop Sir David Moxon, the Director of the Anglican Centre in Rome, who was able, along with me, to reaffirm his vows as a bishop in Christ's Holy Catholic Church. Archbishop Moxon retires from the Anglican Centre in Rome later this year. We were able to pay tribute for the way has has opened so many doors in Anglican-Roman Catholic relations during his time as Director, and for the warmth of our present A-RC relations, which is due in no small part to his remarkable ecumenical ministry. His Associate Director, the Revd Marcus Walker, was accompanied him to Milan for the mass.”
