The Germany Deanery Synod and Council of Anglican & Episcopal Churches in Europe (CAECG) gathered at St George's Anglican Church Berlin 21-22 September on the Feast of St Matthew. Pictured here are Synod and CAECG members with Bishop Geoffrey, Area Dean Canon Christopher Jage-Bowler and Archdeacon Jonathan LLoyd.
The guest speaker was The Reverend Canon Dr Ashley Null, an Episcopal priest of the Diocese of Western Kansas, USA, who is working on a critical edition of Archbishop Thomas Cranmer's private theological notebooks at the University of Berlin. Dr Null led three sessions: 'The Scriptural Power of Cranmer's Liturgy', 'The Role of the Fathers in Cranmer's Liturgy', and 'Cranmer's Eucharistic Vision'.
The meeting shared good news stories from across our parishes in Germany. Richard Gardiner resigned as Hon Treasurer to take up ordination training, and Richard Coburn was elected as the new Hon Treasurer.
Across Germany our Diocese has parishes in Berlin (with Dresden), Bonn, Cologne, Dusseldorf, Freiburg, Hamburg, Heidelberg, Leipzig and Stuttgart. The Episcopal Church's Convocation in Europe (TEC) has parishes in Munich, Frankfurt, and Weisbaden.
The next meeting will be held at Heidelberg 7-9 March 2013.
Archdeacon, the Venerable Jonathan LLoyd said "Our gathering in Berlin was a valuable meeting, sharing news and stories from the local Church, and exploring Archbishop Cranmer with the brilliant mind and lively humour of Dr Ashley Null."
