The former Archbishop of York, Lord Hope, told a congregation in Westminster that the Diocese in Europe was a wonderful example of Fresh Expressions and church growth. “You have been there, done it!” he said.
Lord Hope was preaching at the Annual Service for the Friends of the Diocese and also praised the ecumenical links fostered and encouraged around Europe. He said it was important also to listen to our ecumenical partners if we were to fully understand them.
During the service at St Matthew´s Westminster six new Canons were formally appointed and will be installed later in the Cathedrals and Pro-Cathedrals of the Diocese. (pictured below)
The Reverend Hilary Jones was also welcomed as the Bishop´s Adviser for Women´s Ministry (pictured below)
After the service, attended by a record number of visitors the work of the Friends was celebrated at a reception.
