New Communications Officer for Diocese in Europe
The Rev Derek Williams (56) is to be the next part-time Communications Officer for the Diocese in Europe. He succeeds Preb Eric Shegog who is retiring.
Mr Williams, who takes up his post on 1 May, will continue as Diocesan Communications Officer for the Diocese of Peterborough where he spends three days per week.
Ordained in 1969, he has spent most of his ministry in the field of communications, working for a variety of Christian communication agencies and publishers. He was, for example, Press Officer in the UK for the Billy Graham organisation.
He has written several popular Bible-based books, the most recent being margin notes for the New Light Bible, a basic-English version of the New International Version.
Derek is married to Susan and has three grown-up children. As well as being an Honorary Curate of St Giles, Northampton he is a keen photographer, walker and gardener.
Speaking of his new appointment he said, "I'm delighted at the opportunity to work with a Diocese which has two important strengths that others can learn from. It is at the cutting edge of inter-church relations, and is experienced in ministering to short-term visitors."
