Two new Archdeacons
TO ALL THE CLERGY AND PEOPLE OF THE DIOCESE IN EUROPE FROM THE DIOCESAN BISHOP
I am delighted to be able to announce the appointment of two new archdeacons for the Diocese:
Archdeacon of Gibraltar:
The former Archdeacon of Gibraltar, Fr Ken Robinson, retired as archdeacon on Easter Day, though he remains Dean of Gibraltar and chaplain of the Cathedral Parish.
In his place I have appointed as archdeacon The Reverend HOWIE SASSER, Chaplain of St James, Porto, who is also a representative of the clergy of the Diocese in the Church of England General Synod.
As a member of the Cathedral Chapter of the Diocese Fr Sasser will occupy the stall assigned to the Archdeacon of Gibraltar - the stall of Our Lady of Europe in the Cathedral in Gibraltar.
Eastern Archdeaconry:
Bishop Henry, who as you are aware is leaving the Diocese for an appointment in the Episcopal Church of the USA, has served for some time as acting archdeacon of the Eastern Archdeaconry following the retirement of Fr Jeremy Peake.
In his place I have appointed as archdeacon The Reverend Canon PATRICK CURRAN, Chaplain of Christ Church Vienna. As archdeacon, Fr Curran will work with the three area deans of that archdeaconry, whose new pattern of work is already well-established and much appreciated.
As a member of the Cathedral Chapter of the Diocese Fr Curran retains the stall he already occupies - the stall of St Mark the Evangelist in St Paul's Pro-cathedral in Valletta.
Both new archdeacons will be commissioned during the Synod Eucharist on Thursday 16 May. Both will become full members of the Bishop's Staff Meeting and other diocesan bodies. Your prayers for them ? and for their 'home' chaplaincies, assistant clergy and church officers who will support them locally ? will be a source of encouragement and help as they undertake the increased responsibilities of these new appointments.M
With all good wishes and the assurance of my prayers
from your fellow worker for the Gospel:
