Diocese in Europe

New staff appointed to support lay and ordained ministry

Two new part time staff have been appointed to encourage and support lay and ordained ministry in the diocese, following the departure of Canon Ambrose Mason who has moved after nine years in the diocese to a parish in Monmouthshire.

The Revd Charlotte Methuen is to be Diocesan Director of Training. She will remain as Honorary Assistant Chaplain of St Boniface, Bonn and All Saints Cologne until May 2004, when she will fully take up her new diocesan role.

She is currently writing her Habilitation as part of a research fellowship in the Protestant Faculty of the University of Bochum. She specialises in Reformation history. Charlotte will be responsible for post-ordination training of clergy, and for training for lay ministries.

Charlotte is married to Robert Franke, a German research chemist. She has been diocesan observer on the Meissen Commission and was Secretary of the RCAG (the Council of Anglican Episcopal Churches in Germany) for six years until September 2003.

Taking over the role of Diocesan Director of Ordinands is the Revd William Gulliford. He is Priest in Charge of St Dunstan in the West and St Mary le Strand with St Clement Danes in London. He is also the Bishop of London's chaplain for Eastern Orthodox affairs. His role in the Diocese in Europe is in addition to his current responsibilities.
