Dear Brothers and Sisters, Dear Friends

Iraq is very much in the news today, and there could be no better way of expressing our response to God's love shown to us in the love which stooped to us in the Child of Bethlehem than by supporting those who seek, often in difficult and dangerous circumstances, to show compassion and provide help. Having consulted carefully with those who know the situation in Iraq, I have decided that Medicaid is a reliable channel for our gifts. It is a charity that ministers to Iraqi children in need of medical care, and that care is available to those of all faiths.

Looking back over previous appeals, it is clear that the response has come only from comparatively few chaplaincies. We need to show our generosity together as a diocese, and I therefore urge all chaplaincies and congregations to contribute to this worthy cause. It is the least we can do in response to God's generous love and deep human need.
