Tribute to Sir Edward Heath, KG

It is with great sadness that I and the Diocese of Europe have learnt of the death of Sir Edward Heath. It was a great encouragement to the work of the Diocese when, as both a politician with a strong interest in Europe and a committed Anglican, he accepted the invitation in 1995 to become Patron of the newly-founded Friends of the Diocese in Europe. We
had looked forward to having him with us in October for the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Diocese in its present form. Sadly this will now not be the case, but we remain grateful for his support and encouragement, and his recognition of the special place of the Diocese in Europe in both the Church of England and in its increasing and diverse presence in Europe as a whole. We hold him in our prayers as we commend him to God.
