Diocese in Europe

TWO NEW ARCHDEACONS APPOINTED

Two new archdeacons have been appointed in the Diocese in Europe to work in Switzerland and Italy.

Rev Peter Potter, who is Chaplain of St Ursula’s Anglican Church in Berne is to become Archdeacon of Switzerland in addition to his parochial duties. The new Archdeacon will also have the honour of a stall in the pro-Cathedral of Holy Trinity, Brussels. Peter will take up his duties after he has been formally collated (the official term for authorization) at the end of a conference for all diocesan clergy in Cologne on 25th September.

Canon Jonathan Boardman who is Chaplain of All Saints Rome as well as Area Dean of Italy and Malta has accepted the bishop’s invitation to become Archdeacon of Italy and Malta. He already has a stall in the pro-Cathedral of Malta. Jonathan’s formal collation to the new role will be during the Archdeaconry Synod in Assisi in the Autumn.

The two new Archdeacons will replace the Venerable Arthur Siddall who has retired and previously oversaw both areas.

The Diocese in Europe is currently undertaking a review of all areas of administration and aims in the future to appoint four independent Archdeacons who will not be tied to local church commitments, thus allowing them greater freedom to encourage and assist the growing number of congregations in their care.
