The House of Bishops’ Safeguarding Policy states that the Church ‘will train and equip church officers to have the confidence and skills they need to care and support children, young people and vulnerable adults and to recognise and respond to abuse.’
C0 Training, previously known as Level 1 Training / C1 Refresher Training
Training mode: Online
Recommended for anyone who needs a basic level of awareness of safeguarding. This module is also a pre-requisite for attendance at any other core training module.
Known as Level 2 Training Part 1 / C5 Refresher Training
Training mode: Face to Face
Required for anyone who has safeguarding responsibilities / contact with children and/or vulnerable adults.
Known as Level 2 Training Part 2 / C5 Refresher Training
Training mode: Face to Face
Required for anyone who has safeguarding leadership responsibilities and/or leads activities involving children and/or vulnerable adults.
Please note that this is not an exhaustive list but aims to cover the most common roles in a chaplaincy.
The Basic Awareness course can be completed by any member of the congregation, to improve their understanding of abuse and enable them to help build a culture of informed vigilance within the Church.
For some roles Basic Awareness Training is mandatory, but it is also strongly recommended that Church Officers in any role complete the training. This can include those in less obvious roles, such as Vergers, Servers, Welcomers, Caretakers, Refreshment helpers, Shop staff, Sidespersons, Flower Arrangers, Administrative staff, Bell Ringers, Choir members, Music Group members (including sound/AV).
For those in roles where Basic Awareness is mandatory, Refresher Training must be completed every 3 years.
