In the first formal session of Diocesan Synod in Cologne on Monday evening 29th May 2017 Bishop Robert’s Presidential Address focused on issues affecting the church nationally and at diocesan level.
He spoke about the aftermath of General Synod’s debate and vote on issues of human sexuality and what action is being taken to address these concerns.
He detailed the huge change in culture and practice in safeguarding in the Diocese in Europe and elsewhere – a subject to be covered in more detail in a Synod session later in this week.
He also outlined suggested changes in the Methodist church which could offer changed relationships with clergy in the Church of England.
Finally, Bishop Robert warned about the need to take into account new laws on Data Protection which come into force next year and could have a big effect on our diocesan information and communications.
