Members of Diocesan Synod could be forgiven for expecting some hot topics on the agenda for this week. They arrived in Cologne to find temperatures of 32 degrees Celsius.

Prayer and Worship are the ingredients which bind the Synod together and on Monday evening members and visitors joined for the Opening Eucharist where Bishop Robert spoke about prayer.

He reminded the congregation that between Ascension Day and Pentecost many Christians are sharing in “The Kingdom Come” following the Archbishop of Canterbury’s initiative. Bishop Robert said he has already heard of prayer events in Fuertaventura, Eindhoven and Berlin in our own diocese.

Following the Gospel reading from Matthew chapter 6 the Bishop led a meditation on prayer and commended the Synod in its literal meaning of “A journey together” where members will discuss matters personal, social, political and organisational.

The Synod continues until Friday morning.
