Mission, fellowship and fundraising come in many different forms. St. Alban's Copenhagen in Denmark have just enjoyed a "Sponsored Songs of Praise" service which was a success on every score. The choir and a bigger than usual congregation for a Sunday afternoon service sang the 7 hymns which got the most votes. Here are their top seven – what would yours be?

  1. Be thou my vision
  2. Thine be the glory
  3. Dear Lord and Father of mankind
  4. Love divine, all loves excelling
  5. We have a gospel to proclaim
  6. Father, Lord of all creation
  7. Ye that know the Lord is gracious

Four people who had chosen one of the winning hymns were asked to speak about why they chose their hymn. Their reasons were fascinating - childhood memories, Methodist background, connections between the Danish Lutheran hymn book and Anglican hymns, and last but not least, finding God.

The service sheet included some background information about each hymn in a fact filled booklet which as a souvenir too. St Alban’s Chaplain, Rev Darren McCallig, added a few personal comments about the hymns. Afterwards, worshippers were so appreciative that they asked for a re-run in the not too distant future.
