Honour for Member of Croatian Chaplaincy

On 9th June, Mark Davies was awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his services to the British community in Croatia – cricket, English language teaching and work with the British Council, as well as his service in the Anglican Chaplaincy. We wish Mark our proudest ‘Well done’!

Mark writes, "Towards the end of May 2018 was invited by the British Ambassador to Croatia, Andrew Dalgleish, for coffee. “That’s nice,” I thought and asked what was on the agenda and who else would be attending the meeting. “It’s a personal matter, Mark,” I was told.

At the meeting Ambassador Dalgleish informed me that my name had been submitted to the Queen for approval of the award of the British Empire Medal for services to the British community in Croatia. The award was officially announced in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in June 2018."

Mark has been part of the Anglican Chaplaincy in Zagreb since 2006 and has been serving for a number of years as treasurer and churchwarden. He is part of a very committed small team looking after the life of the Chaplaincy in its ebbs and flows. "I feel very honoured to receive the award and for the opportunity the Diocese in Europe has given me to serve in this way."
