Royal Visit To Malta (gc) Pro-cathedral

The Chancellor of St Paul’s Pro Cathedral in Malta, Canon Simon Godfrey welcomed HRH the Duke of Gloucester on a visit in his capacity as Grand Prior of the Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem during the week after Easter. The Cathedral has links with the Order dating from the Nineteenth Century and the Chancellor is Chaplain of the Order in Malta and a member of the National Council.

During his visit the Duke carried out 30 engagements throughout the Island  including a tree planting for the Queens Diamond Jubilee and the 70th Anniversary of the granting of the George Cross by his uncle King George VI, He awarded the George Cross to the people of  Malta on 15th April 1942 in token of their gallantry during World War Two. The island is formally known as Malta GC.
