Rev Keith Gordon 1949 – 2012

Fr Keith Gordon, (pictured on left with fellow clergy) Priest in Charge of St Francis, Tenerife South died in hospital on the island on Monday 4 June 2012. He had been in intensive care for over a week after he was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Fr Keith was living and working in Venezuela when he first joined an Anglican church in Caracas. Canon Ian Hutchinson-Cervantes, now in Madrid, was serving as a priest in Caracas and Keith was a Server in the church. Canon Ian encouraged Keith to follow his vocation and he was ordained in Venezuela in 1998. His early ministry was in South America before he moved to the Diocese in Europe where he took up the post of Priest-in-Charge of Tenerife South in 2003.

Rev Mike Smith, Chaplain of North Tenerife says “Keith had been on a life support system and was and a group of 13 members of his family, close friends, members of the South Chaplaincy, with clergy and the dean of Gibraltar anointed and prayed over him before saying their goodbyes.

A Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday in the church of San Eugenio prior to Cremation.

Archdeacon David Sutch says that with a commercial training in cooking and hospitality Keith will be well remembered for showing great hospitality towards all, especially during our Archdeaconry residential meetings as they coincided with his birthday. “He loved Tenerife and had plans to retire there, but having fought cancer and won in the past, this time the tumour and its complications won and Keith surrounded by family and friends and having received the Ministry of the Church he loved and served, returned to the Lord he served so well. May he rest now is the Peace of the Risen Christ”

Please pray for Keith's brother and niece, his close friends and his Chaplaincy. Remember also Fr Mike Smith and the Chaplaincy of Tenerife North.

From the Anglican Parish of St Laurence in Lanzarote.

It was with tremendous sadness that we heard of the death of Fr. Keith. He was a great friend to us all & the Parish of St. Laurence in Lanzarote. He will be greatly missed but we have some wonderful memories from Archdeaconry Synods & his time spent with us in Lanzarote which we will treasure forever. Fr Tom Barnfather adds; "I met Keith for the first time at Archdeaconry Synod and warmed to his very generous and open nature. I am sorry not to be able to share in the ministry of the Islands with him. God Bless you Keith, and Rest in God’s love and peace."
