Making Music In Malta

At the beginning of July St Paul's Pro-Cathedral in Malta has hosted a two week International Music Festival featuring Master Classes and the Malta International Music Competition.

Over 100 Internationally acclaimed young musicians in the field of Classical, Baroque, Folk, Jazz and New Music participated and Professors and Teacher from Europe Asia and The USA have been helping with training sessions. It culminated with prizes and certificates of competence awarded after a recital and a concert. The final Concert was at the Manoel Theatre, just 200 metres from the Cathedral. The Manoel Theatre which was built by the Knights of Malta in the early 18th Century and ranks as one of the great Theatres of the Baroque Era will be hosting an International Baroque festival in January 2013.

Canon Simon Godfrey, Chancellor of St Pauls says “The church has resounded to the wonderful music making of children from the age of 6 (Dmitry Ishkhanov from Russia born in February 2005, Claudia Vento from Italy (born in February 2004) and  Bodam Lee from South Korea who is 11as well as  teenagers and young acclaimed artists and some stunning adults. 

“It has given our many visitors, music makers and parents the opportunity of hearing music in our tranquil setting. We strive to keep our house of prayer alive with liturgical music and to add this Festival to our regular Concert Series has been a fantastic experience for all involved.”
