Canon Gary Joins The General Synod Team

Canon Gary Wilton, the Archbishop of Canterbury's Representative to the EU and Canon of the Pro-Cathedral of Holy Trinity, Brussels, has been elected to fill a casual vacancy to represent the Diocese in Europe on General Synod.

He will take the place left vacant by the resignation of Canon Ian Hutchinson Cervantes, who is currently Chaplain of St George’s Church in Madrid but will be moving to a parish in the Diocese of Chichester in the Autumn. (Canon Ian pictured below)

Canon Gary is no stranger to the Synod, having witnessed debates at the request of the Archbishop and in February this year he spoke at a fringe meeting organized by the Diocese highlighting the crises and challenges for the church in mainland Europe.

His appointment will run until 2015 when there will be a further round of election for the Synod, which is the church’s “parliament” with responsibility for legislation, and deliberations on liturgy and finance.
