Special Services For The Season

Although the Diocese in Europe boasts over 150 licenses clergy covering almost 300 churches and congregations from Morocco to Moscow, and Madeira to Finland that number is increased periodically by a series of seasonal chaplaincies.

During the winter sports season in France and Switzerland chaplains, organised by the Intercontinental Church Society (ICS) in association with the Diocese in Europe and local chaplains, take services in local churches, hotels or other suitable venues.

In Summer locations for seasonal services include Interlaken, Wengen and Zermatt in Switzerland, Cavallino on the Adriatic coast of Italy, Pont Aven in Brittany, and Ibiza where the visiting clergy assist the existing church and its chaplain on the island.

Rev Peter Sutton who has been a seasonal chaplain for ten years says “Being seen around a bit can make all the difference. The campsite launderette and queuing for a washing machine with the telecabine ride up the mountain are equally fruitful places for ministry. Loitering with intent is often the order of the day!”

As the Summer holiday season continues please pray for all our churches, especially those who welcome holiday visitors as well as for the work of the ICS seasonal chaplains who work alongside our regular clergy.
