Iberian Synod Gets A Greeting From The Archbishop Designate

When members of the Archdeaconry Synod of Gibraltar which covers Spain, Portugal, Andorra, Morocco and the islands of the Mediterranean And Atlantic, began their 3 day Synod in Torrevieja they were given greetings from Rt Rev Justin Welby who is soon to become the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Bishop Justin left a lasting memory in the minds of Synod delegates two years ago when he spoke in Torrevieja about conflict resolution within the church. Area Dean, Canon Hugh Broad told the opening session on Tuesday evening (29.1.2013) that he had sent congratulations to Bishop Justin on his new role. He had replied sending greetings and observing “Was it really only two years ago?”

During the next two days of Synod members will be informed about the need for Safeguarding in our churches. They will also hear from Bishop Bill Godfrey who leads the Anglican Diocese of Peru which has links with the Gibraltar Archdeaconry.
