Lusitanian Links In Portugal

Fr Bob Bates, Chaplain to St James in Porto reports that he was privileged to be asked by the Bishop of the Lusitanian Church in Porto, Bishop Jorge Pina Cabral to concelebrate with him at a 25th Wedding Anniversary Mass, for his cousin Daniel José Cabral and his wife Maria do Rosário.

There are strong links with the Lusitanian Church and the Chaplaincy of St James in Porto, particularly through Daniel's late father (also Daniel) who served as Bishop of Lebombo in Mozambique, before returning to Porto in the mid 1970s. Bishop Daniel went on to be Archdeacon of  Gibraltar in our diocese from 1987 - 1993 during which time he conducted the marriage of his son and daughter-in-law in St James' Church.

Fr Bob said, "It was good to be a part of this family occasion with its strong links to our Chaplaincy, and to celebrate in worship with our Anglican brothers and sisters of the Lusitanian Church. At my licensing we blessed a plaque in St James, given by the Cabral family and dedicated to Bp Daniel, and it is good to be able to maintain these connections."
