Meeting Of Minds And Of Shared Experiences

Members of the Gibraltar Archdeaconry Synod are back in their local churches this weekend after 3 days of sharing at the Synod meeting in Torrevieja. The hotel where Synod met overlooks the Mediterranean and provided a good (if unseasonably cold, for Spain!) setting.

It was Bishop Robert’s first visit to the Archdeaconry and he enjoyed meeting members individually and sharing the “work in progress” on the diocese’s Vision Statement which will be discussed by Diocesan Synod in June.

Bible Studies were a little different this year. On the two consecutive mornings Rev Paul Needle, Diocesan Communications Officer led a “whistle stop” tour of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation in a total of two hours! The new Safeguarding online training course and other important updates were presented by Lesley Weaver, Diocesan Safeguarding co-ordinator

There was also time for informal fellowship and fun – as this rare snap of the Dean of Gibraltar, with his wife Jennifer, letting his hair down on the dance floor during a line dancing session

In a diocese which covers vast distances – the Archdeaconry includes Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Gibraltar and the islands of the Atlantic and Mediterranean – many local churches feel isolated and lack the proximity of UK based parishes so the fellowship and shared learning will have re-charged spiritual batteries for our ministry in the southern half of Europe.

Bishop Robert left on the final morning for Switzerland where he was to spend the weekend at – another Synod!
