Championing youth in our diocese – meet our Youth Network Co-ordinator

Revd Stephen Murray wants to make himself redundant. The diocese’s Youth Network Co-ordinator started in his role in the autumn and has a clear vision of what he wants to achieve. ‘I want to get to a place where chaplaincies in the diocese are doing such a great job that they don’t need me anymore,’ he says. But he knows there’s hard work to be done first.

Bishop Robert's Christmas Day Sermon

What do you feel like when it is dark? Are you scared of the dark? There seems to be more darkness than there used to be. To save energy, the street lights in our commune are now switched off at midnight. So it does get really dark. The lights on the motorways in Wallonia are switched off at 10:00p.m. So driving back earlier this week from Charleroi airport at night in the pouring rain I certainly needed to concentrate hard.

Archbishop Justin to speak at final Advent prayer service for Ukraine

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, will be the speaker at an Advent prayer service for peace in Ukraine which is being hosted by the Diocese in Europe for the Church of England. The online service will include contributions from Kyiv and Moscow and will be led by the Bishop in Europe Robert Innes. It takes place on Wednesday 21 December at 5.30pm GMT (6.30pm CET/7.30pm Ukraine time).

Bishop Robert's Visit to Ukraine with the Archbishop of Canterbury

Written by Bishop Robert "I travelled to Kyiv with a group led by the Archbishop of Canterbury. I was there to offer pastoral support and encouragement to our little Anglican community in the city, some of whose members are pictured above. Whilst in the city I listened to many stories of personal bravery and suffering. These are Christian brothers and sisters who live in fear of attack by missiles and drones, and whose electricity, heat and light is interrupted on a regular and irregular basis because of the destruction of critical infrastructure. "

Join our weekly Advent prayers online for Ukraine

NEXT SERVICE 21 DECEMBER Three special online services to remember the people of Ukraine in prayer and to pray for peace are being organised by the diocese during Advent. The format will follow the pattern of the prayer vigils which took place in Lent, shortly after the Russian invasion.

Archbishop Justin and Bishop Robert visit Ukraine

The Archbishop of Canterbury and Bishop Robert arrived in Kyiv today for a three-day visit. The trip has been organised to show solidarity with the people and churches of Ukraine as they face ongoing Russian bombardment and a profoundly difficult winter.
