Fundraising adviser joins our ‘fascinating’ diocese

The generosity of God – and inspiring and helping the Church to reflect it - are central to the vision which drives the diocese’s new Fundraising Adviser. Juliet Evans, who held a similar role in the Diocese of Guildford, started in post earlier this month and will work with chaplaincies to increase their income through giving and other fundraising means. Her remit also includes a myriad of complex practicalities in areas such as online giving, gift aid, legacies and regular giving schemes.

Expectations of miraculous commitments that would bridge the gap are low. But even for those immersed in the rather depressing media coverage, there is cause for hope. The global conversation is not about ‘whether’ to tackle climate change, but ‘how’."

Remembrance in Moscow – the hope of light in the dark

Dignitaries from 37 embassies around the world attended the remembrance service at St Andrew’s in Moscow on Sunday. The congregation, including a number of deputy ambassadors, heard the chaplain, Revd Malcolm Rogers, preach on the horrors of war and the glimpses of light in the darkness. The service took place as the war in Ukraine – the biggest conflict on European soil since the Second World War – rages on into its ninth month.

Revd Canon Smitha chosen to chair Minority Ethnic Network

The chaplain of St Alban’s, Copenhagen, Revd Smitha Prasadam, has been elected chair of the Anglican Minority Ethnic Network, (AMEN). The network is an independent group which promotes the presence of minority ethnic Anglicans across the Church.

In a world full of immediate crises, COP27 may struggle to grab our attention. Certainly, as events, COPs leave much to be desired. I attended COP 21 in 2018 with the Christian conservation organisation A Rocha and I'm well aware of the flurry of press releases, speeches and statements they bring.

Bishop’s Advent Appeal 2022: Fund a new toilet block for Bishop Hannington School, Kenya

In 2020, I launched an appeal to build a classroom for Bishop Hannington School in Mumias, Kenya. I am delighted to say that the classroom was successfully built. Indeed great progress has been made with the construction of other classrooms too. My appeal this year is for a toilet block for this same school.
