A number of people from the Diocese of Europe received Maundy Money at Windsor Castle.

Two people from the chaplaincy of Nerja and Almuñécar in the Archdeaconry of Gibraltar were among the 92 men and women who received the special Maundy Money from Queen Elizabeth II during a service at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle on Maundy Thursday.

Every year the monarch presents specially minted coins to men and women, one for each year of her life, in a ceremony going back many centuries. This year Judith Austwick and Michael Bacon from the Anglican Chaplaincy of Nerja and Almuñécar were chosen to represent our Diocese for their dedication and commitment to the Church and community. 

"It was a real privilege to have been invited to attend," said Mrs Austwick. "Singing the National Anthem will never be the same again. I will always have the memory of singing it with the Queen standing only a few feet away from me."

The Queen gives two special commemorative coins to the recipients to the value of £5.50 representing money given to the poor in years gone by to cover food and clothing.  In addition each recipient was given coins to the total of 92 pence - 1p for each year of the Queen's life.

Michael Bacon added, "It was a wonderful and most memorable day."

Another recipient was David Sayers the administrator and treasurer of the Pro-Cathedral of Holy Trinity in Ixelles, Belguim. David has been serving and helping out various Anglican churches in Belgium and beyond over many years.
