Contactless card reader giving
Introduction
With cards overtaking cash as the preferred form of payment in many countries, we know that having the ability to accept digital donations is going to be key for many churches in the years to come. Digital giving helps to make it easier for people to give to their chaplaincy - and allows them to make a donation if they are not carrying cash.
Solution for 'transaction failed' message on your contactless device
We are aware that some chaplaincies are experiencing an issue with their contactless devices at this time. If you have set up your device - or have been using your device for a while – and you are suddenly seeing a ‘transaction failed’ notice on your device’s screen when a donation is made, these are the steps you need to take:
Check your wifi or mobile connection. Sometimes it can be a connectivity issue.
Log into your Give A Little account on a computer/phone. Go to the Account tab at the top, then Integrations. In the SumUp box click on 'Disconnect' and then click on the 'Re-connect' button that appears.
But it is very likely that your account is on hold because SumUp is requiring more verification from you. We are aware that SumUp Europe is now asking accounts (not just churches) to supply additional documents to confirm church status (via a copy of your constitution, website address - and the diocese can also supply a certificate if necessary) and 'owner' status (via eg a copy of the first page of your AGM minutes, copy of the account holder's passport). SumUp will often block transactions (or withhold payments out) until you supply this information.
You will need to log in to your SumUp account, click on the Support button at the top of your screen, find the Chat function and ask them what the issue is.
If it is a verification issue, they will send you a list of what they need.
They are usually very responsive and helpful if you have any questions.

Digital Giving Rollout: New Expressions of Interest
If your chaplaincy would like to be considered for a subsidised contactless giving device, please read this information about the Digital Giving Rollout and then complete the Expression of Interest Form.
Many thanks to all the chaplaincies who have applied for a contactless giving device in 'Phase II'. We are currently working through the list of applications.
Digital Giving Rollout: Phase I update
Thanks to Church of England and Diocese in Europe funding, we were able to provide heavily subsidised contactless giving devices to 35 chaplaincies across Europe. These devices enable visitors to give through debit/credit card or via their smartphone or watch with GooglePay/ApplePay.
