House for Duty Chaplain - Anglican Church in Costa Brava, Spain
House for Duty Chaplain - Costa Brava, Spain
Support from the Chaplaincy
You will be supported by a committed and enthusiastic team in the form of the Church Council, the Churchwardens, as well as the congregation. A warm welcome awaits you!
Support from the Archdeaconry
The Anglican Church in the Costa Brava belongs to the Gibraltar Archdeaconry, Spain and is part of the Diocese in Europe.
Our chaplain will receive support from:
• Rt.Rev’d Robert Innes our Bishop
• Rev´d David Waller our Archdeacon
• Rev´d Paul Strudwick our Area Dean
There is also an annual residential Archdeaconry Synod meeting, with 2 representatives from our chaplaincy. Additionally, clergy from the Balearic Islands, Costa Brava, Barcelona, Costa Azahar and Madrid meet twice a year, in spring and autumn, for two days for a supportive clergy cluster group.
The nearest colleagues for our Chaplain are in Barcelona, Deborah and John Chapman who are very supportive. All this provides valuable support for our chaplain, who can feel geographically isolated. Administration Administration takes up a large part of the Chaplain’s time, as does in any church environment. But the website is now used much more as a source of correct and up to date information.
What to expect as our new chaplain
In some ways this chaplaincy may be very removed from your previous ministry but in other ways it may be exactly the same. Maybe sitting on a beach in December, hosting live services on zoom, attending a clergy chapter meeting in Valencia or a Synod meeting in Alicante. The funerals, weddings, baptism, Sunday services may have a similar feel but be more relaxed than you are used to. However, the big difference may be the distance that the parish is spread over.
Technology is key here.
It is even more important as a means of communication. WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook, text, the website and phone are all very important. You can’t easily pop round to ask someone a question. We want you to be happy here and for your ministry to prosper and flourish.
We commit ourselves to
• Praying with you and for you
• Use our gifts and abilities to complement yours
• Respect your days off and help you take your full holiday entitlement.
Our churchwardens can lead Morning Prayer services while you are away.
• Take an interest in your family, should you have one, whilst respecting your privacy.
• Pay your expenses fully & promptly
• Fully maintain the Chaplaincy car.
