Services of commemoration and thanksgiving for the life of Queen Elizabeth are taking place across the diocese over the next few days in the build up to her funeral on Monday. And a number of clergy are preparing help local media as they cover the funeral. Here are some of the events that have been planned: 

In Gibraltar, there will be a service of thanksgiving in the cathedral at noon today, local time. This will be livestreamed on YouTube. Ministers from the Roman Catholic and Methodist churches and the Church of Scotland are due to attend. The Chief Minister and Governor will give tributes. UPDATE - watch the service here.

Later today (at 7.30pm) there will be a memorial service at St Mary’s in Rotterdam. The congregation from the Scots International Church Rotterdam will also attend.

A big ecumenical service is scheduled to take place in Prague today. It is understood that the Roman Catholic archbishop is among those taking part. The service is taking place in the Roman Catholic cathedral in Prague Castle. In France, a memorial service is scheduled to take place at St Michael’s in Beaulieu-sur-Mer at 4pm this afternoon. And tomorrow a commemoration service is due to take place at Helsinki Cathedral.

The Pro-Cathedral Holy Trinity in Brussels will host a commemoration service on Saturday. Bishop Robert will be officiating. It is also expected that this service will be streamed on YouTube.  A number of senior dignitaries, are expected to attend. On the same day, a large civic commemoration is being planned by St Albans in Copenhagen. Guests will include members of the diplomatic and business communities and representatives from the armed forces. 

Similarly on Saturday, St George's, Paris will be hosting a service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in the presence of Her Excellency Dame Menna Rawlings DCMG British Ambassador to the French Republic.

And on Sunday, there will commemoration services for Her Late Majesty at Holy Trinity in Geneva and at the Anglican Church in Basel. On the same day a joint service will bring together the Anglican Church and the Norwegian Church in Trondheim. In Spain, the mayor of Calpe has proposed a shared service bringing together Anglicans and Roman Catholics at La Merced Church at midday.

Further services are being planned for later this month in Rome and next month in Malaga. More details will be available nearer the time.

Meanwhile television channels have been contacting our clergy seeking their help with coverage of the Queen’s funeral on Monday. In Brussels, the Revd Canon Jack McDonald – President of the Central Committee of the Anglican Church in Belgium - is due to appear on the nation’s most popular channel, LN24. He will be interviewed between 9am and 10am and will then be part of the panel providing commentary. In Copenhagen, the Revd Canon Ulla Monberg, the Diocesan Director of Ministerial Development will be providing the commentary and is helping Danish television with translation of the service. And the diocese’s former Director of Reader Ministry, Revd Canon Elaine Labourel, has been approached by the main French TV network, TF1, to take part in their coverage. While in Italy, Revd Jules Cave Bergquist will appear on RAI to commentate on the service.
