Ecumenical meeting in Athens
On Wednesday 16th October there was a meeting held between His Beatitude, Hieronymos II, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, and Fr. Benjamin Drury, Chaplain of St Paul’s Anglican Church in Athens.
Fr. Ben presented the Archbishop with the Letter of Appointment as Apokrisiarios of the Archbishop of Canterbury to the Archbishop of Athens. The word Apokrisiarios is a Byzantine term for a ‘legate’ or Representative. Also present was Fr. Leonard Doolan, the former Chaplain and Apokrisiarios.
To mark his appreciation the Archbishop of Athens presented Fr. Leonard with the honour of a pectoral cross.
The lawyer of the Board of the Anglican Church in Greece, a senior representative of the diocesan social outreach organization, Apostoli, and the secretary of the Inter Church Department of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, were also present.
