How our diocese celebrated the King’s Coronation
A brief rain shower did not dampen the spirits of Holy Trinity, Nice, and their Coronation celebrations as the congregation enjoyed a celebratory garden party after the morning's service.
A service hosted by Warsaw, Poland. was attended by the UK Ambassador to Poland Anna Clunes as well as Ambassadors from Commonwealth countries including Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The UK Ambassador talked about the significance of the Coronation and her experience of meeting King Charles and the many causes he champions that includes environmental campaigning for better conservation and The Prince's Trust. The service was well attended with many guests and familiar faces from our own community.
The chaplaincy of St. John the Evangelist, Izmir, was “delighted” with their Coronation Thanksgiving Service and following Garden Party on Sunday evening. Guests included Consuls of Greece and Germany, colleagues from the British Consulate and US Agency, members from the Turkish civil society and senior representatives from the Christian and Jewish communities in the area.
The Anglican Church in Palma, Majorca, held a screening of the Coronation followed by a big street party on the terrace. There was a wide display of delicious-looking food on offer and lots of English tea to go with it.
In Stockholm, Sweden, the Chaplaincy of St. Peter and St. Sigfrid organised a mini-marathon of joyous organ music the evening before the Coronation, with organists from a variety of local churches lending their time to help support the evening's entertainment. The night turned out a great success and saw many visitors enjoying refreshments of Swedish coffee, English tea and plenty of chocolate digestives.
St Nicholas’ Anglican Church, Helsinki, had a day of celebrations to remember. The day began with a service to celebrate the Coronation, followed by a party with old friends and new; including their very own sea shanty singing pirates!
Over in Brussels, the Pro-Cathedral held a “Service of Prayer for HM King Charles III,” attended by the British Ambassador and his wife, the Canadian Ambassador and his wife, and representatives of the Christian Churches and the Jewish and Muslim communities.
St. Margaret’s Anglican Episcopal Church, Budapest, held its own screening of the Coronation complete with biscuits, cakes, champagne, and a lot of pageantry!
Finally, at St. George’s Church, Sicily, members of the congregation were lucky enough to be able to gather together in the chaplaincy’s sunny garden to enjoy some cake, wine, and snacks in celebration of the Coronation.
We hope you had a weekend filled with celebration. God save the King!
