Licensing of new chancellor at St Pauls pro-cathedral, Malta
On Sunday 24 September, there were joyful scenes as the new chancellor of the pro-cathedral in Malta, Fr David Wright, was installed.
“I and my family have been visiting Malta and Gozo for nearly thirty years, and during that time not only have we come to love the islands and their people, but I have also felt a growing sense that God might be calling me here to minister as a priest. I look forward to working with the congregations at St Paul's Pro Cathedral in Malta and Our Lady and St George in Gozo as we seek to grow God's kingdom in both places and to follow Christ in the footsteps of St Paul. I am also excited about the prospects of working with ecumenical colleagues and with the diplomatic community so that the Anglican family plays its full part in the religious and civic life of the Maltese islands” Fr David said.
Bishop David Hamid who licensed Fr David said: “The Pro Cathedral of St Paul in Valletta has traditionally been a place where joyful, prayerful liturgy can be found, the centre of warm ecumenical relationships, and solid civic engagement. I am delighted that Fr David Wright is the new Chancellor, for he brings huge experience and many gifts which will build on this tradition. The pastoral care of members, both newcomers and long-serving faithful, is also one of his priorities, which will be so encouraging for our congregations in Valletta, as well as in Our Lady and St George in Gozo.”
In a packed cathedral, guests included Dr George Vella, president of Malta, The Archbishop of Malta, the British and Australian High Commissioners and the Irish Ambassador.
St Pauls Choral Society under the direction of Hugo Agius Muscat, led the sung mass with sacred choral music & familiar hymns.
