Obituary of Father Tony Ingham
We are sorry to share that Father Anthony Ingham, chaplain of St Michael’s chaplaincy of Beaulieu-Sur-Mer, has died. He passed away at his home in Beaulieu on April 15 2024. We hold his wife Fiona and the community at St Michael’s in our prayers.
The Venerable Dr Peter Hooper, Archdeacon for France, Monaco and Switzerland, shared;
"I have had the privilege of working alongside Tony for some 3 plus years and have come to appreciate his immense support for his Chaplaincy, Archdeaconry and Diocese. He has had a clear vision of wanting to develop God's kingdom amongst his congregation and we are all richer in Spirit having spent time with him. As a very devoted Priest and Chaplain within the French team, he will be greatly missed."
Father Hugh Bearn, chaplain of Monaco, knew Fr Tony for 30 years. He shares his reflections on his life :
“Tony Ingham lived a fruitful and faithful Christian ministry. He had been a policeman and served in the Royal Army Chaplain’s Department for 13 years serving in the Iraq war, the United Kingdom and Europe. He possessed a keen theological mind, meticulous in liturgy, was deeply spiritual and had an immovable trust in God that was the very core of his being.
Tony was a good bloke. He could engage with all sorts and conditions of men and women and was nobody’s fool. He played life with a very straight bat and was a man of immense personal integrity. His unique sense of humour was legendary, as was his collection of miniature toy soldiers that ran into tens of thousands. He was physically and morally brave, unprepared to accept that which was clearly wrong. Alongside his devoted wife Fiona, he exercised a ministry of true compassion that many have been blessed by. He was a loyal friend and a sound teacher of the Faith. He was a son of Lancashire, and his opening greeting was often, “Ow yer doin?” He will be cherished by more than those who will simply miss him. For so many we have had the enormous privilege in being touched by his life.”
Father Anthony Ingham was born in 1955. He was ordained deacon in 1978 and ordained priest in 1979. Following time at St Ann’s church in Manchester, he became an Army Chaplain in 2001. In 2015, he joined St Michael’s in Beaulieu-Sur-Mer where he was Chaplain for the last 9 years.
His funeral will take place on 23rd April at St Michael's.
May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
