The chaplain of St Alban’s, Copenhagen, Revd Canon Smitha Prasadam, has been elected chair of the Anglican Minority Ethnic Network, (AMEN). The network is an independent group which promotes the presence of minority ethnic Anglicans across the Church.

Congratulating Smitha on her success, Bishop Robert said he was ‘delighted’ she had been elected. Bishop David agreed, ‘Warm congratulations on this election,’ he said. ‘We in the AMEN network are in good hands!’

Smitha was elected at the network’s recent annual general meeting. She said she was delighted and flattered to be appointed.

‘I believe that the work of racial justice is the work of the Kingdom of God,’ she said. ‘I am excited by the work of the network and my vision is for AMEN members to be the leaven in the loaf enriching, growing and feeding conversations and engagement in racial justice. I also see huge potential to connect people of Global Majority Heritage in mainland Europe with those in UK dioceses for mutual enrichment.’

Smitha said the network would look to new initiatives to build on the platform and momentum of the Diocese in Europe's racial justice policy - "Breathing Life" and “From Lament to Action” report. She has also been invited to Lambeth Palace to make a presentation to the Racial Justice Commission. 

It is the second time in six months that Smitha has been appointed to a significant role within the Church. In the summer she was invited to join a Church of England commission designed to promote mutual flourishing. The 12-member ‘Standing Commission on the House of Bishops’ Declaration and the Five Guiding Principles’ was selected by the House of Bishops. The Commission’s role is to support dioceses with the monitoring of the House of Bishops’ Declaration on the Ministry of Bishops and Priests.
