TO ALL IN ROLES WITH A RESPONSIBILITY FOR SAFEGUARDING

In alignment with the launch of the revised Safeguarding Policy, chaplaincies now assume responsibility for the Safeguarding Checks of lay chaplaincy roles.

With understanding that a period of transition is essential, the Diocesan Safeguarding Team will continue to accept Confidential Declaration Forms for lay chaplaincy roles until 30th November 2019.

From 1st December 2019, the Diocesan Safeguarding Team will still be available to support and assist with specific cases when required.

The new Safeguarding Officer Guidance will provide helpful information, including who is responsible for what roles and the introduction of Safeguarding Checks for “Occasional Helpers” (see Section 1).

Katherine Harris, our Diocesan Safeguarding Liaison Officer, is holding an additional weekly Safeguarding Clinic to assist with the transition on Wednesdays from 11am to 2pm UK-time, starting from Wednesday 23rd October 2019.  Please telephone Katherine directly on 0044 (0)7827 187 083 at any time during the weekly timeslot, or you can send her an email to arrange an appointment for her to call you: katherine.harris@churchofengland.org

You can also contact the Diocesan Safeguarding Team from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm UK-time, on europe.safeguarding@churchofengland.org or 0044 (0)20 7898 1150.

TO ALL IN ROLES WITH A RESPONSIBILITY FOR SAFEGUARDING

The Diocesan Safeguarding Advisory Committee’s current review of the Diocesan Safeguarding Policy is nearing completion.  We anticipate that a Policy and Guidance refresh will be published in early October.

Please continue to use the current Diocesan Safeguarding Policy from 2015 until we go live with the refresh.

TO ALL IN ROLES WITH A RESPONSIBILITY FOR SAFEGUARDING

We have recently received a high volume of Confidential Declaration Forms for chaplaincy lay volunteers, which has led to a delayed response time.

We are working hard to process these as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your patience.

TO ALL IN ROLES WITH A RESPONSIBILITY FOR SAFEGUARDING

From Tuesday, 1st October 2019 the Diocese in Europe’s Level 1 Safeguarding Training will be replaced by the Church of England’s C0 Safeguarding Training.

As a National Church platform, there are UK-specific references included in the C0 Safeguarding Training; however, the key principles of Safeguarding remain the same across all countries.  Your feedback will be welcome as we review the implementation of this new module in our Diocese.

To access the C0 Safeguarding Training, you can click on the following link and create a new account:

https://safeguardingtraining.cofeportal.org/

Once you have completed the training, you will automatically receive a certificate.

You can start using this new portal now.

For those who have completed the Diocese in Europe’s Level 1 Safeguarding Training, you will not need to complete the C0 Safeguarding Training until your 3-yearly safeguarding training refresher is due.

For those who have started but not yet completed the Diocese in Europe's Level 1 Safeguarding Training, please ensure that you complete this by Monday, 30th September 2019.

If you have any questions, please email Majean Griffith: majean.griffith@churchofengland.org

08/10/2018:

TO ALL SAFEGUARDING OFFICERS

There have been a few issues with the Level 1 Online Safeguarding Training package, for which we're in contact with the training supplier to figure out a quick and viable solution.  Whilst some applicants have no problem logging on and completing the Training, one of the issues that some are facing is that, when they click on either the Adult Protection training or Child Protection training, they only see a black rectangle (or black screen) and are not able to progress any further.

We have been informed that this is an issue with the browsers that people are using to access the course, where Adobe Flash is not automatically recognised.  If this happens, please ensure that you have downloaded Adobe Flash Player (which is free), and then there are two options:

  1. Access the training via the Microsoft Edge browser, instead of Google, Google Chrome, etc.
  2. Right-click within the black box / black screen, and then select ‘Reload Frame’.   An Adobe Flash Player dialogue box should appear just to the top left of the black rectangle /screen; within this click on ‘Run’.  This should then take you directly into the training.

We appreciate that this is not ideal, and hope to have this rectified with the training supplier in the near future.

If you experience any further problems, please contact us via email to europe.safeguarding@churchofengland.org or by telephone: 0044 (0)20 7898 1163.

25/05/2018:

TO ALL SAFEGUARDING OFFICERS

The new Confidential Declaration Form (CDF), to include the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is now available to download from the Safeguarding ‘Policy and Guidance’ page of the Diocesan website (https://europe.anglican.org/safeguarding/policy-and-guidance).  Please do not use any old or personalised forms so we can ensure that the most up-to-date forms from our website are in circulation.

We have been working on improvements to the CDF and will update you shortly.  Thank you for your suggestions on how to improve this document.  Each will be taken into consideration and discussed at a more senior level.

If you have any questions or require any further information, please do contact the Diocesan Safeguarding Team on 0044 (0)20 7898 1150, or via email to europe.safeguarding@churchofengland.org.

Thank you for your attention to this.
