Safeguarding Leadership Pathway
Following on from the Basic Awareness and Foundations online courses that begin your learning journey on the pathway, the Safeguarding Leadership module is designed for those who play a lead role in shaping the culture of their chaplaincy. It is required for anyone who has leadership responsibilities, or has responsibility for organising activities involving children, young people and/or vulnerable adults. If you are unsure whether your role is required to take the Leadership course, please check the Chaplaincy Roles Checklist, speak to your Chaplaincy Safeguarding Officer or contact our Training Coordinator by email.
The course explores leadership behaviour, how safeguarding develops from a healthy church culture, and how to respond effectively to safeguarding concerns. A course workbook is provided to guide participants through the course work with links for further reading. Some reading, reflection and responding are required as preparation for the Zoom sessions, plus review and evaluation work following the sessions. The two Zoom sessions are scheduled to take place at the same time, two weeks apart, and are 90 minutes in length (but may last up to 2 hours depending on the quality of the discussion).
Course materials are sent a month before the first session. Participants are required send their responses to the pre-course questions one week before the first session in order that the facilitators can guide the sessions as required.
The training sessions for each course are listed below. Course registration opens 90 days before the first session date. Click on the link to open the Eventbrite booking system on a new tab, then click the Reserve a spot button; in the form, enter your name and email address, your chaplaincy role and where you are. If you are having any problems, please contact our Training Coordinator via email who will be happy to help with booking your place on one of our courses. Course bookings are on a first come, first served basis. If a course is full, email us have your name added to the waiting list for that course; we will contact you if a space becomes free, though that is dependent on someone else dropping out, so we cannot make any guarantees.
"Before the course I resented the whole idea about attending. However, having attended, I found it really interesting; it revealed for me how a structure and framework of fairness and equality is built in a logical and rational way, to create a safe environment espoused by Christian ethics."

"This has been helpful in my growth toward a safer church community. What I like about the training is that you learn from each other and it offers enough flexibility to fit it to our local conditions."
