Concern / Allegation

• You suspect or witness abuse or someone discloses information about a safeguarding concern or allegation.

Emergency: Immediate

• In a life-threatening or emergency situation, ensure that the individual accesses immediate support from the local emergency services as safely and quickly as possible. In circumstances where you are unsure about how to refer an allegation, the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) or incumbent (if outside Diocesan Safeguarding Team office hours and if the allegation is not referring to them) shouldbe consulted as soon as practicably possible.
• Record and report all the information to the Safeguarding Officer and incumbent and/or the DSA.

Non-emergency: Within 24 hours

• Record and report to the Safeguarding Officer, incumbent or activity group leader. Agree who will inform the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA). You may report to the DSA directly if preferred.
• Record and report all the information to the Safeguarding Officer and incumbent and/or the DSA.

Any information will be reported and discussed with the DSA, or the Diocesan out-of-hours service if the concerns arise outside of normal office hours, within 24 hours.

The DSA / out-of-hours service will provide advice and guidance.

• Record all action
• Consider the support needs of all those affected by allegations of abuse at all points in the above stages
• Remember the safety and welfare of any child or adult take precedence over all other concerns
