Germany Deanery Synod highlights
Written by Archdeacon Leslie Nathaniel:
"Our German Deanery Synod was held from 19 - 22 October in Bonn, German. It was most encouraging to have Bishop David with us, especially as this was the last time he would attend one of our synods before his retirement in February. Apart from discussion on general diocesan affairs, he was able to lead is in a presentation entitled “A Theological Perspective on Climate Change”. He presided at the concluding Eucharist which was centered around the theme of peace with the current situation in Israel/Palestine at the forefront. Our deliberations also addressed the topic of increasing antisemitism in Germany and other European countries.
"In recognition of his many and various services to our deanery over the past 21 years, it was a delight to present Bishop David with an album in which all synod representatives present were able to write a message of thanks and good wishes. One significant aspect of Bishop David’s ministry among us has been his support for the Meissen Agreement between the Anglican churches in the British Isles and the regional churches of the German Protestant Church. So it seemed most appropriate to give a gift of two cups of Meissen porcelain displaying the characteristic crossed swords logo.
"The Germany Deanery Synod wish Bishop David every blessing".
