Racial Justice Sunday
Ahead of Racial Justice Sunday this week, 12 February, we hear from the lead of our Racial Justice Group, The Revd Canon Smitha Prasadam, Chaplain at St Alban’s, Copenhagen
“A young man had big dreams about being an architect. It was not to be.
His parents dreamt of a day when racism would be a distant memory. It is yet to be.
Stephen Lawrence was murdered in an unprovoked racist attack exactly 30 years ago this year.
With his death and the inquiry into his death a new term entered the dictionary. Institutional racism. And it is evident in organisations and systems everywhere including the church, police, workplace and school.
Racial Justice Sunday on the 12 February offers an opportunity for congregations everywhere to focus on this important matter because unconscious bias and under represented take their toll on our common life.
Yet, together, we can create enriching human community where there is dignity, opportunity and access for all."
Revd Canon Smitha is also a members of the Anglican Minority Ethnic Network (AMEN) and has been offering words of encouragement on their Facebook page every day this week.
In addition, these resources have been produced by Churches Together in Britain and Ireland and the Liturgical Commission.
"We are the architects of a just future destined by God" concludes Smitha.
