Revd Canon Malcolm and Alison Rogers recognised in King’s birthday honours list
We are delighted that Revd Canon Malcolm Rogers, chaplain at St Andrew’s Moscow has been awarded an MBE and Alison Rogers has been awarded a BEM in the King’s birthday honours list announced today.
Malcolm is appointed MBE for ‘services to the British and Commonwealth community and to the Anglican Church in Moscow, Russia.’ Alison is awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for ‘services to the British community in Russia.’
Speaking about the award, Malcolm said: “We feel very honoured to receive these awards, although we are conscious that what we have done is no more than what other priests, lay leaders and their partners are currently faithfully doing all over our Diocese. We are grateful to God for the privilege of serving St Andrew's and the English-speaking community in Moscow over the past 6 years. There have been times of uncertainty and fear, and we have been grateful for the prayers and support of so many for us and our community, as well as for our community in Kyiv. I have just been doing my job, but we are particularly delighted that Alison's role has been recognised. We will desperately miss Moscow and the people when we leave here (for family reasons) at the end of next week.”
Bishop Robert added: “I am thrilled that Malcolm and Alison Rogers are recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours list. Moscow is a tough posting. Malcolm has had a distinguished ministry, both in his pastoral care for a diverse international community and in representing the Church of England with the Russian Orthodox Church. I am particularly delighted that Alison’s role has been recognised. She has been wonderfully generous and hospitable in her care to local parishioners and visitors alike. It will be a big wrench for them to leave Moscow, but I am glad they will now have opportunity for some rest and recuperation and will no longer be at such a long physical and emotional distance from their family.”
Malcolm has been chaplain at St Andrew’s Moscow since 2017. Prior to this he had over 20 years of parish ministry in the UK, and before this Alison and he were mission partners in St Petersburg with CMS.
