The Revd Canon Peter Edwards RIP
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Fr Peter Edwards, who had served in this diocese, leading a thriving team ministry at the parish of Holy Spirit, Costa Blanca, and who in 2015 was noted as being the longest serving Church of England priest in the Iberian peninsula. Bishop David writes:
"Fr Peter Edwards first moved to Spain to experience a more relaxed pace of life. It was not long, however, before his extensive experience as a priest was called upon, and he left his intended retirement to accept the call to lead the team of priests serving the parish of Holy Spirit, Costa Blanca, which is the largest chaplaincy in the diocese in terms of numbers on the electoral roll. Under his proficient pastoral oversight as Senior Chaplain he nurtured a warm, open, accommodating and gently Catholic expression of Church life across the 8 congregations of the chaplaincy. With this he combined gifts of meticulous pastoral care, a sense of humour and a confident, no nonsense approach to Church life. He was warmly accepted and appreciated as a colleague by the local Roman Catholic clergy and did much to deepen our ecumenical relations in Costa Blanca. On a personal level, as a bishop I was always grateful for Peter’s straight-forward advice to me, as well as his own genuine care for me as a person and in my ministry. May our Lord now receive his faithful servant Peter into the peace of eternal life."
