St Saviour’s Anglican Church, Riga, has successfully made a special display of postcards from churches all over the world. 

To mark their annual "Baznīcu nakts" (Night of Churches), taking place on the last weekend in May, they put on an exhibition of cards from more than 250 churches, in 36 countries - including South Korea, Ghana and Canada.

The postcards were hung on strings so that visitors could read the messages from around the globe. Joe Horgan, church warden at St Saviour’s said, 

“From the bottom of our hearts, we cannot thank you enough for supporting our event by sending us cards for our special display. Throughout the evening, more than 500 people visited the church and were able to enjoy your cards and learn about your special churches. I put together a map so you can see where they came from.” 

In perfect timing, Night of Churches fell on the same day the church finished the first phase 1 of an ongoing ceiling renovation project. This meant that the scaffolding came down before the event, and guests were able to enter the church without obstacles.

Joe added, “We have decided that even after the event is over, we will still continue displaying the cards as a permanent exhibition in the back of the church, and we will continue adding to it over time, if anyone else continues to send us postcards. If you are ever able to make it out to Rīga one day, then perhaps you can find your card on our wall! Thanks again to everyone who sent in postcards, for your friendship and cooperation in making this idea a reality.”
