A church in Latvia is inviting Anglicans from around the world to send it a postcard as part of an annual national celebration. The postcard can be a digital one – or more traditional physical one. And in return, it promises to send one back. 

St. Saviour's in Riga usually exhibits creations made by its members as part of Baznīcu nākts, or Night of Churches. The event takes place on the last Sunday in May where churches across Latvia open their doors for the night and invite visitors to enjoy organ concerts, choir performances, exhibitions, lectures, and other cultural events. But this year it will be curating an array of postcards.  

Cards have already begun to arrive from destinations as diverse as Australia, Taiwan, Canada, India and Malawi – as well as other parts of the Diocese in Europe.  “So far we have received digital postcards from 45 churches in 16 different countries,” said Joe Horgan, Churchwarden at St. Saviour's. “And we have received a number of messages from people who have sent physical cards that should begin arriving in the next few days. 

“I have made a map of all the digital cards we have received and will continue adding it as we continue receiving both digital and physical cards.”
