Godly Play and Children’s Spirituality
The Diocese in Europe Children’s and Young People’s Network present Godly Play and Children’s Spirituality and have asked us to publicise their next event
Godly Play and Children’s Spirituality will be an online session on 1 June 2021 at 8 pm CET (7 pm BST).
Godly Play (1) is an approach based on principles of independence, viewing children as naturally eager for knowledge and nurturing their ability to discover who God is.
Responding to the child’s request to ‘help me do it by myself’, the teacher is in the role of spiritual supporter who fully accepts that each child has his or her own relationship with God already.
Children are capable of initiating learning in a sufficiently supportive and well-prepared learning environment.
Godly Play (2) classes are led by a “storyteller” who brings bible stories to life with the help of models and pictures.
Children are encouraged to ask questions and share their reactions to the stories, and can respond creatively using art and craft materials. The teaching takes place in different ways at the same time: it is multi-modal and multi-sensory.
There will be input from Celia Patterson from the Madrid chaplaincy in the Diocese, with time for questions and discussion to see how Godly Play could be valuable in our own chaplaincies to nurture children’s spirituality. We look forward to seeing you there!
To book your place, please contact Yelena Williams at ywilliams@ics-uk.org. She will then send you a Zoom link to join in.
