Basic and Foundation courses
Basic Awareness course
We encourage everyone to complete our online Basic Awareness course. It takes about one hour to complete and looks at how to spot signs of abuse and how to respond. It’s an excellent way to learn how to ensure your chaplaincy is a safe and healthy environment. This course is a prerequisite for all further training modules.
Access the course by following this link. You will be prompted to create an account with the Church of England National Safeguarding Team’s online learning portal
Foundations course
The Foundations course is required for everyone with safeguarding responsibilities, or if your church role requires you to be in regular contact with children, young people and/or vulnerable adults. It can also be accessed by anyone who wishes to build on the learning from the Basic Awareness course. To access the course, you need to use your username and password to log on to the Church of England’s National Safeguarding Team’s learning portal.
NB: Please note that the Foundations course refers to UK legislation, namely The Care Act 2014 and The Mental Capacity Act 2005, in relation to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. Although these laws don't apply outside the UK, the key safeguarding principles can be applied to any context.
