2024 Safeguarding Conferences
Save the dates!
This year's Spring Safeguarding Conference will be held on Thursday 23rd May starting at 16:00 BST/WEST | 17:00 CEST | 18:00 EEST and is scheduled for 3 hours. There will be presentations and an opportunity to network with your peers. As with previous conferences, it will be recorded if you can't make the date or are unable to stay for the whole time.
Our keynote speaker will be Robert Lightowler. He has been a head teacher, a pastor and a year ago retired from prison chaplaincy. His present focus is working with survivors of trauma and facilitating post traumatic growth (PTG).
In 2018 his book was published - ‘Breaking The Silence on Child Abuse’ (publisherd by DayOne) - using a pseudonym so that it could be used in prisons. He has an MSc in Applied Psychology and is now writing a handbook for survivors called ‘A Tool Box of Hope - A PTG Programme’. He also runs workshops for communities and professionals on trauma and enabling PTG. This is part of SPRINGS - Restoration from Trauma, which runs a support group meeting face-to-face and another is planned to be online.
The Autumn Conference will once again be held on the day before Safeguarding Sunday.
- Service - Friday 15th November
- Conference - Saturday 16th November
- Safeguarding Sunday - 17th November
CSO mentoring workshops
Thank you for carrying out this very important part in the Church’s ministry. It is appreciated that the role of a Chaplaincy Safeguarding Officer is not only challenging but can often feel isolated. This is especially true in our diocese with the additional problematic factors of distance, as well as different languages, cultures, and laws. This is the reason a team of experienced CSOs are putting together a series of workshops which will aim to help you by covering some of the building blocks of your role. It will also be an opportunity to ask questions and network with other CSOs from across the diocese.
Whether you have been a safeguarding officer for a while or you’re new to the role, there is always an opportunity to learn from others doing the same role in other parts of the diocese.
Each workshop will cover different topics and will be run twice: on a Saturday morning and a weekday evening. Numbers are strictly limited, though if you’re not able to attend we plan to record the workshops to share with all CSOs afterwards. Running time will be two hours. A link to join on Zoom will be sent out before the workshop.
Clicking on the links below will take you to a registration page in Eventbrite. You may register for 1, 2 or all 3 workshops.
